Do you have any tips on protesting safe by yourself? I'm completely alone(I have no friends willing to come with me and my family all voted for trump) in a red State

Howdy! That’s an important question, thanks for taking the time to reach out with it!

I also protest by myself almost all of the time, and here are some general safety tips I’m aware of:

Let someone know where you’re going - if your friends won’t come, at least give them a heads up where you’ll be and for how long.

Try to make a buddy at the protest - for tomorrow’s protests large amounts of peaceful demonstrators will be out and about even in red states, and if these people are protesting they should be friendly to folks protesting with them. From protests I’ve been to, there are a lot of older folks that turn out that are quite affable, and if you can find any families they may also be good folks to stand by or chat with.

If you’re up for it, Volunteer! The best way to join a group even if you don’t know anyone is to get in touch with your protest coordinator and ask to be a volunteer at the protest. This can be for something like peacekeeping (what I volunteer as!) or greeting, running poster-making booths, handing out water, etc. What’s great about volunteering is you’ll be in close contact with another group of people through the whole protest and will have a pretty good idea of what’s going down the entire time.

Those are just a couple of tips I know of, I can also recommend checking social media groups that might be running protests - Indivisible is a great resource, as is 50501 (I’m in the 50501 discord as well where you can join groups specific to your state and ask for more info, I believe you can also do this on reddit)

These groups will have more specific information on your location in particular, and will also be able to get you in contact with more experienced organizers if you have any other questions!

I have this funny image of the great race being kind of like a dog show, but for mimics, and they go around the arena with the mimics on these harnesses. And poor Gordon, he gets halfway around the arena before rolling over and dying.

Meanwhile mimic Thomas shows up to perform even though he has a twisted ankle from his accident and is still in one of those soft pillow cones they use for rabbits.

Your assessment over the Great Race's events being more like a dog show are correct. Railway Shows are basically just bigger more elitist dog or cat shows with very specific categories aimed at specific kinds of mimics.

The reason for Gordon to be pulled out of the race, however, has more to do with the fact his body started violently rejecting the sudden modifications he was subjected to.

You see, mimics have a very special organ called a vesicula magica which seems to be the key to all their strange abilities (although no one has been able to make heads or tails of how it works). Gordon seems to have a considerably weaker vesicula magica which means his flexibility for "modifications" is near-nonexistent. He needs to take supplements when he goes to the Steamworks specifically so that he doesn't reject any veterinary care that involves feeding him parts that were designed with the A1 specifications to mend broken bones or vitamin deficiencies that resemble broken down parts in locomotives.

Gordon was essentially sent to race without having had any of these supplements, and the ordeal was... Well it involved a lot more flesh wriggling and blood spewing out of orifices than you'd be comfortable thinking about... It also caused the other mimics racing to actually abandon the race and scatter in a panic (which is not great since they were all at service size and they caused a bit of destruction trying to get away from the scene).

It was BAD. Scandal levels of bad.

You're spot on about Thomas tho. He was competing on three legs and with a cone, while his fur was incredibly patchy from both having to be shaved to give him treatment and also having had to have thick dry paint cut off of him.

He did not care the slightest tho, he wanted to participate and he got exactly that! Even if Vinnie attacking Philip helped to cut that brief moment of glory short. Either way he still got a lot of praise for his valiant efforts.

Keep the US Postal Service Independent

Trump is planning to take control of the United States Postal Service after firing the entire Postal Board and placing the agency under the control of the Commerce Department. The Postal Board of Governors cannot be legally dismissed without cause, and Trump’s attempt to override the system is an illegal takeover that threatens mail-in voting, veterans’ jobs, and the public’s ability to receive affordable mail service. This comes just days after Postmaster General Louis DeJoy announced his resignation following five controversial years at the agency. The USPS is mandated to provide affordable service to every zip code, but privatization could result in significant price hikes, post office closures, and slower mail—especially in rural areas.

Beyond delivering mail, USPS is also one of the largest employers in the country, with over 635,000 workers—including nearly 100,000 military members and veterans in its workforce. Privatization would put these jobs at risk.

Congress must act now to prevent this blatant power grab and ensure the USPS remains independent, affordable, and accessible to all Americans.
